Game Clubs in Paris: Barrier plans to open on the Champs-Elysées

Barrier, number one of casinos French, will submit an application for a game club in Paris, which is expected to open this summer on the Champs-Elysées, in the framework of the new regulations in force in the capital.

Casinos have been prohibited since 1920, and within a radius of 100 km around Paris in order to avoid disturbances to the public order, the only exception being the establishment of Enghien-les-Bains. But since the 1st of January, a new law allows “clubs and games” in the capital, highly regulated manner.

“The barrier will introduce very shortly an application for the opening of club games in Paris. It will be located on the first floor of the 104, avenue des Champs-Elysées, in front of the Hotel barriere Fouquet’s Paris”, announced on Monday that the group. “Subject to obtaining the licence and permissions management works, it should open in the summer of 2018,” he said.

Or blackjacks, or wheels, or slot machines

The new club of games have a vocation to take the place of the circles of games, including the one still in business is that of Clichy Montmartre, the quasi-totality of the other institutions that had Paris who have succumbed in recent years to a hecatomb, judicial in particular for tax fraud or money laundering, against the backdrop of organised crime. These new institutions, however, must comply with very strict regulations: or blackjacks, or wheels, or slot machines will not be allowed – while these games are very popular and also very lucrative for casino operators, primarily the slot machines that can represent some 90% of the revenue.

Partouche, number two in the sector, has recently stated “work on the opportunity to open one or more clubs” in Paris, while stressing that “the business model is very risky”. The other two groups, Raineau and Sharp, have already filed applications to open an establishment in the capital.

The Barrier group has 34 casinos, including 6 abroad, but also 18 hotels, and over 120 restaurants and bars, including the famous Fouquet s. It employs approximately 7,000 employees and its turnover amounted to 1.16 billion euros for its fiscal year ended in October 2016.
