The main objective of the functional tests cold is to run the hydraulic test of the primary circuit to a pressure test progressive. In order to achieve this condition of pressure, the main challenges will be to start and operate most of the systems related to the primary circuit, main coolant pumps, for example). This will ensure the tightness of the primary circuit, the functional testing of auxiliary systems for main as well as the implementation and the control of some of the functions of the nuclear island and of the operating modes.

This opens the way to the start of functional testing, hot scheduled in the 4th quarter of 2017.

“This is a fundamental step in the process of commissioning of the EPR reactor at Olkiluoto 3. It is the efforts of all the team who are crowned with success today. The way of the hot testing is open as well as the delivery of the first fuel elements.” said Jean-Pierre Mouroux, director of the project EPR OL3 for the AREVA-SIEMENS consortium.

Beyond the start-up of the functional tests cold, the finalization of the electro-mechanical installations main and finishing works of the plant are in progress.
