Whirlpool chooses the company WN for the recovery of the site of Amiens

The group of home appliances Whirlpool on Thursday announced to have selected the takeover offer from its site of Amiens filed by the contractor picard Nicolas Decayeux, which proposes to retain 277 employees on the 290 at the factory. Whirlpool and WN, the name of the company of Mr Decayeux, “have reached a proposed general framework of the transaction, including the financial structure and the organization of the recovery,” announced the group in a press release.

The project of recovery “should enable the creation of 277 jobs on the site of Amiens,” according to the press release.The group Decayeux is the european leader in the manufacturing of mailboxes. However, the company WN is given by Nicolas Decayeux in his own name, and its activities on the website of Whirlpool Amiens will be independent of the group. One provides on-site manufacturing and the marketing of “lockers smart refrigerated”, intended for the food distribution and the medical sector, according to a press release from WN.

The other is to create an “incubator industrial” for young companies in sectors close to the equipment, spatial planning and of urban property, through the pooling of production capacity, design, quality and supply chain. The objective will also be to act as a co-contractor of the major distributors in the industry.

Support of Xavier Bertrand

Whirlpool France was launched on Thursday the consultation of the representative bodies of the staff on this project. “We do not doubt the positive outcome and fast this process so that you can start in the best conditions this industrial project,” said Nicolas Decayeux, quoted in the press release of WN. His offer had already received the support of the elected representatives of the works committee last month, as well as that of the president of the region of the Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand (LR).

“The project Decayeux this is the basis of the future of this site, but there will be other projects that will be added”, with “several tens of jobs per project is” additional, promised on Thursday, Mr. Bertrand, interviewed by AFP.

Because in more than 290 employees, the plant dryer Whirlpool Amiens, which should close in June 2018 to be relocated to Łódź in Poland, also employs 250 temps, and about a hundred employees of the subcontractor Prima (plastics) are installed on the site. “The employees of Whirlpool are a priority, it is one of the guarantees that they must. There will also be training needs, because it is not in the same business,” said Bertrand, pointing out that the Region has put “several million euros” on the table for the bond, training and investment.

“This is good news for employees and the pool of employment”, commented to AFP Ludovic Dug, delegate CFE-CGC in the factory.”The project of recovery is not yet finalised but it should not be long, probably in September,” said the trade unionist. “Inevitably this gives balm to the heart (…). Now there are still some issues to be resolved on the terms and conditions of a recovery, the wage conditions”, added Frédéric Chantrelle, delegate CFDT. The struggle of the employees of Whirlpool Amiens, who had been on strike from April 24 to may 5, was asked in the presidential campaign with a pass weapons on the spot between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen during the period between the two rounds.
