Uk raises terrorhotnivå to ”critical”.

The united kingdom raised on Tuesday night terrorhotnivån in the country from ”serious” to ”critical”, which is the highest level, reports the Financial Times and several other media.

The news came hours after police identified the suicide bomber who killed 22 people in the måndagskvällens attacks like Salman Abedi, a 22-year-old man who lives in the city.

The raising of the threat level means that the security service has information which suggests that a further attack may be imminent. It also means that the military can help the police to enhance security at public locations and at events.

Prime minister Theresa May said on Tuesday night that terrorhotnivån been raised after a terroranalysgrupp within the security service MI5 has made an assessment that there was reason to act.

”Their assessment is not only an attack still remains very likely, but that an attack may be imminent. It is an opportunity we can’t ignore that there is a larger group of individuals linked to this attack,” she said.

Mark Rowley, head of the national antiterrorstyrkan, described the investigation of Monday’s attack as ”fast” and that it made good progress.

Ian Hopkins, chief of police in Manchester, bekräftade earlier that Salman Abedi was the prime suspect for the bombing, but said that the police were awaiting to give further information because ”he has not yet formally identified” as bad people.
