The financial markets Authority (AMF) has a new president

The decree was published Tuesday in the Official Journal : the president of the Republic has appointed Robert Ophèle president of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). The candidate had been selected following a recruitment process, open a new one. Currently the second deputy governor of the Bank of France, and president on delegation of the Authority of prudential control and resolution (ACPR), Robert Ophèle was interviewed last week by the Senate finance committee which has given its green light, just like that of the national Assembly.

This graduate of the Essec business school’s 60-year-old was already a member of the college of the AMF. He will officially take up his duties on 1 August, succeeding Gérard Rameix, whose mandate expires at the end of July.

The mandate of the president of the AMF, is for a term of five years and non-renewable.

He also raised the question of the resources of the authority, which employs 480 agents. In fact, the budget of the AMF is limited to the State from 2014, for reasons of cost, to 94 million euros in 2017, while its resources are greater (110.8 million of revenue in the past year), the excess is paid to the State, and its actual expenditure (100 million in 2016), which requires the institution to draw on its reserves
