Rail Transport : Alstom and Siemens sign their merger agreement

The railway builder French Alstom and the transport division of the German industrial Siemens signed Friday, march 23, their merger agreement, announced in September, were announced the two groups in a joint statement.

The announcement of this merger in September had sparked a controversy in France, a part of the political class denouncing the takeover of a German jewel in the crown of French industry. The inter Alstom opposed the project, fearing plant closures and job cuts in France.
