Programmed Obsolescence : investigation on Epson printers

A preliminary investigation for “planned obsolescence” and “deception” for the manufacturer of printers Epson was opened on November 24, at Nanterre, a-t we learned Thursday with the prosecutor’s office, a first according to the association which filed a complaint. The investigation was entrusted to the services of the Directorate-general for competition, consumption and repression of fraud (DGCCRF), under the ministry of Economy, said the prosecutor’s office, confirming information of the journal The Point.

This is the first survey of this kind in France, according to the association to Stop the planned obsolescence (HOP), which had filed a complaint in late September for the American HP Inc., the Japanese Canon, Brother, and “in particular” Epson
