Michelin and Safran are developing the first tire connected to plane

During the Salon du Bourget 2017, Michelin and Saffron present in exclusivity the world’s first pneumatically connected to air. The project, named ” PresSense “, refers to an electronic sensor pressure installed directly in the tire and intended to facilitate the operations of maintenance on the ground.

Result of a collaborative work engaged for about two years by Saffron and Michelin, PresSense is a wireless solution running in the form of embedded system. The electronic sensor collects the information about the tyre pressure and transmits this digital data to a distance. All of this without any intervention on the tire, thanks to a reader connected to a smartphone and connected to a database. A process much more simple than the operations of conventional control, which require a manual intervention on the valve of the wheel and by means of a manometer – sensitive operations, knowing that the tyre pressures higher than 15 bars.

Vincent Mascré, Chairman of the Safran’s Landing Systems, commented : “We are pleased that this partnership with Michelin, the industry leader in pneumatic, and owner of a real know-how in terms of innovation and connectivity to pneumatic. Together, we will be able to offer our customers a solution that is reliable, efficient and saving time. ”

Frank Moreau, President of Michelin Aircraft Tyre, adds : “The collaboration between the teams, Michelin and those of the Safran’s Landing Systems, the world’s number one duties landing gear for aircraft, an expert in the field of aviation systems on board, has been crucial. PresSense represents a true technological breakthrough, our latest innovation, in response to the needs of our customers. ”

The deployment of the project PresSense is scheduled to come on stream in 2019.
