Total and Mauritania have signed a contract for Exploration and Production on exploration of hydrocarbons on the block C7, with a surface area of 7,300 km2, of which Total is operator (90%), to the sides of the Mauritanian Society of Hydrocarbons and Mining Heritage (SMHPM) which will hold the remaining 10%.

“This agreement fits in the strategy of Total to explore new reservoirs in the deep sea of the african continent. Associated with our existing interest in the permit in the deep sea C9, this block will create a surface exploration and an adjoining extent of about 17 000 km2 in a promising area of the offshore of mauritania,” said Guy Maurice, head of Africa Branch Exploration and Production at Total, following his meeting with Mr Mohamed Abdel Vetah, the Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
