After several months of negotiations and plenty of tension, the Italian builder Fincantieri announced, in the evening of Friday, 2 February, the signing of the definitive agreement regarding the acquisition of 50 % of the capital of the French shipyard STX. He now has to pay 59.7 million euros to complete the transaction.
“He has had to overcome some difficulties to reach the agreement between STX and Fincantieri (…) and I am happy today to announce to Rome that the final agreement will be signed in the coming days,” had announced on the previous day, the French finance minister, Bruno Le Maire. The Italian shipyard will eventually have the majority of the share capital of STX, but the French State would retain a blocking minority.
