Burkina Faso chooses Eutelsat to switch to the tnt

Abidjan, Ouagadougou, Paris, 30 may 2017 – Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris : ETL) announced today, on the occasion of Discop Abidjan, the signing of a multi-year contract with the burkina faso Society of broadcast television (SBT), a public operator of diffusion of TNT in Burkina Faso.

This contract is part of the changeover from analogue to all-digital technology, currently in full throttle in Burkina Faso.

The capacity leased on the EUTELSAT 3B serves as well for a few weeks to feed 35 transmitters digital terrestrial made to mesh the entire territory of burkina faso. The satellite signal, which consists of twenty tv channels[1], is then re-broadcasted by these terrestrial transmitters among households in burkina faso equipped with a digital decoder or a suitable tv.

In addition to the capacity mobilized on EUTELSAT 3B for the dissemination of this bouquet free of dvb-t, SBT, in partnership with the RTB, the public channel of the State, has rented also the satellite capacity on Europe and Africa via EUTELSAT 9B and EUTELSAT 16A, to ensure the public service mission. This mode of dissemination is particularly adapted to the needs of the embassies and the diaspora of burkina faso on these two continents.

Kadidia Kimsey, Director of SBT, said : “We relied on the perfect coverage of our country by the satellite EUTELSAT-3B to launch a tv offering which will allow a very large number of homes of our country to benefit from a maximum of TV channels, with better picture quality and sound. Our goal is that by the end of the year 2017, we can cover 98% of the territory by the dissemination of DTT. ”

Michel Azibert, deputy general Manager and director of sales and development of Eutelsat, added : “through this contract, we accompany the evolution of the audiovisual landscape in this country, by mobilizing resources on three satellites of our fleet. We particularly welcome the willingness of the SBT accelerating access to digital channels in Burkina Faso.”
