(Reuters) – S&P Dow Jones Indices, which provides clues to follow the developments of the stock markets in the United States, announced that it would raise the values of the telecoms and media and entertainment within the same sector in the context of a redesign widely expected of its indices, including the benchmark, the S&P-500.

This initiative reflects “an evolution in the way we communicate and access entertainment and information” as well as the spectacular integration of these sectors through a wave of mergers and acquisitions, said the index provider in a statement released Wednesday.

Sector index S&P telecom on the New York stock Exchange has only three values: AT&T, Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and CenturyLink.

This change will come into force at the end of September 2018, and the names of the large companies affected by these changes will be announced in January, said S&P Dow Jones Indices.
