The Feast of Neighbors : a mixed success
Admittedly, the initiative is good. It was launched in 1999 by the association of Properties to Party and is widely known to the general public : 95.6% of panel questioned by Immonot.com says know the concept of the event. However, for the majority of the respondents (61,1%), no party is organised in their area… For the others, the enthusiasm for the Feast of Neighbors seems mixed since the 17.6% of them go there only if they have nothing else scheduled, to 12.6% refuse to set foot in it, and only 9% participate each year !
Nevertheless, the question “What personality would you like to invite to the feast of neighbors if you could ?” reveals an interesting fact : the presence of the Mayor of the town is widely acclaimed ! Be the first deputy, or a local elected representative, a representative of the municipality would be appreciated by 27% of respondents who answered the question. Furthermore, the good mood and a festive atmosphere are of prime importance to 7% of the same panel : several respondents would invite a group of musicians, a storyteller of local history, a comic or even a circus artist, to animate this moment of sharing.
Neighbors who know each other quite badly
If 55,6% of the respondents would like to better know their neighbors, the 44.4% of respondents are not planning to tighten the links… moreover, 22% of respondents do not know the first name of their neighbors ! So far, 36.4% of them know the first name of all their neighbours and this depends on (some yes, some not) to 41.6 per cent.
In general, a certain disinterest towards the inhabitants of the same district appears to be set for a good part of the respondents. In fact, two-thirds of the panel (64,3%) recognize the exchange of simple pleasantries with their neighbors. Then come to the equality (13.2 per cent), service requests and invitations between neighbors.
As for the atmosphere that reigns in the district, the responses are once again clearly the trenches : two-thirds of the panel (64.8 per cent) say that calmness represents the climate is predominantly present, and 27.8% feel an atmosphere of indifference… The rest of the responses are shared equally between ” joy ” and ” discord “.
A cordial understanding
The neighbourhood relations appear to be rather nice, since two-thirds of the panel (65.7 per cent) say they maintain cordial relations. The qualifiers “average” (18.8%) and “very good” (11,6%) come respectively in second and third position. The bad neighbourly relations represent barely 4% of the responses : a statement reassuring… A result to qualify, since 33% of the respondents indicate that they have already had a quarrel with a neighbor !
The trio of the tension quoted is, in head, sounds of work, which are widely decried by 27.6% of the respondents. The rushing sound of a drill at 8 am in the morning was indeed what upset. In the second position, it is animals (22,2%) that constitute nuisance to the more unpleasant. When we know that nearly one out of two households owns at least one pet in France, one can easily understand that the smells, barking, and other inconveniences are likely to be disturbing to some people. Then come to the nuisance caused by the holidays.
In search of the neighbor ideal
The 3 qualities most appreciated in the home of his neighbor, are the discretion (45,4%), courtesy (31.1%) and helpfulness (17%). Conversely, the neighbor that everyone dreads is bad (39,3%), indiscreet (25.9 per cent) and sticky (14.4 per cent). “Each home “, such seems to be the motto adopted by a large majority of the panel, which does not aim specifically to build real relationships with its neighbours.
Cross each other in the lobby of the building, take the elevator or even exchange a few words along the garden fence are the neighborhood relationships the most common. Yet, some have made the choice to develop a real solidarity with their neighbors, while others simply prefer to ignore them…
