Amazon offers unique medical service to Prime members as part of healthcare campaign

Takeaways

Amazon (AMZN) is accelerating its push into the healthcare market by offering discounted subscriptions to its One Primary Medical Care Unit for Amazon Prime members.

Amazon announced that Prime members will be able to get an annual One Medical subscription for $9 per month or $99 per year, which could be up to $100 less than the current One Medical annual subscription . Up to five family members can be added for $6 per month or $66 per year each.

The online retailer completed its purchase of One Medical for $3.9 billion in February. The healthcare company offers patients 24/7 on-demand virtual appointments through its app, as well as in-office visits. It has offices in 19 major U.S. markets.

Neil Lindsay, senior vice president of Amazon Health Services, said the company offered a lower-priced subscription because “when it's easier for people to get the care they need, they engage more in their health and achieve better health outcomes.

Amazon shares ended down 0.4% on Wednesday, but they have added nearly two-thirds of their value so far this year.
